Stages of Menopause

Premenopause
Premenopause refers to the normal reproductive life of a woman before she starts experiencing changes leading to menopause. It is the time from puberty to the last regular menstruation.
Perimenopause
Menopausal changes in your body do not occur suddenly and are usually pre-empted by a two to eight year period of fluctuating hormones. This stage usually takes place when a woman is around 45 years of age. During this phase, women may start to experience the physical, mental and emotional challenges of menopause like irregular bleeding and mood swings. Knowing and understanding what these symptoms are can help you cope better with the impact.
Menopause
The beginning of menopausal years is confirmed when a woman has not menstruated for 12 months from the last bleeding. The average age of menopause is 51 years and it marks the end of her reproductive years. You may still experience the symptoms of perimenopause as your body adjusts according to the new level of hormones.
Postmenopause
Postmenopause are the years following menopause. This phase is established 12 months after menopause and most symptoms experienced during the perimenopause phase are reduced significantly. You may find greater acceptance for the changes in your life, and feel a greater sense of fulfillment as you devote more time to yourself and the things that matter to you.
